Born in Korea, Raised in Canada, just like me!
When I was 12, my family and I moved from Korea to Canada. We ended up in Kelowna, B.C., a place that was beautiful but felt unfamiliar. But at home, things stayed the same—our meals were always filled with the complete flavours of Gochujang and Doenjang (fermented soybean paste), just like they had been in Korea.
As I got older, I started cooking for friends, and found a lot of satisfaction in broadening their palettes. I loved sharing a part of my experience as a way of connecting. Not only did they like my food—they devoured it. I decided I needed to make it easy for them to integrate Korean-inspired flavours into what they were eating.
That’s how KUME was born—Korean-inspired sauce and dip that bring the unique, fermented flavours into whatever you’re cooking, no complicated recipes required. Think of it as a delicious way to diversify your pantry (and maybe even your dinner conversations). Our products aren’t just condiments—they’re an invitation to share an experience.
